Elon Musk’s Starlink now in Nigeria; What you should know about Starlink

Starlink is a subsidiary company of SpaceX. we all know SpaceX as a private aerospace company founded by billionaire Elon Musk to make space travel more advanced and cheaper.
the main product starlink offers is satellite-based internet connectivity, i.e starlink is a internet service providwer but has a service model ased on satelite ased technology. The system consists of a constellation of thousands of small, low-Earth orbit satellites that work together to provide internet connectivity to users on the ground. Starlink aims to offer low-latency and high-bandwidth internet services, with initial tests indicating that the system has the potential to provide download and upload speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

The company aims at providing internet access to places on earth were access to the internet is very poor, places like forest/ country sides, cold or mountainous regions and even ships sailing far into the ocean. banking on satellite technology, Starlink seeks to reach places where normal fibre-optic cables wont be able to penetrate and also cut costs, although they also aim at global coverage not just inaccessible areas.

Around mid- February 2023, Starlink officially launched in Nigeria, making Nigeria the first African country to recieve starlink coverage. Starlink secured licence from the NCC to deliver internet conectivity from thier network of satelites.

It’s worth noting that internet access and infrastructure in Nigeria is still developing, and there are many rural and remote areas that lack access to reliable and fast internet services. So, the potential arrival of Starlink in Nigeria is very promising and could have a significant impact on the availability and quality of internet services in the country.
